NYWO Chamber Music Course
If you would like to play wind chamber music in great company with first-class professional coaching and get maximum value from a five-day course held twice a year then the NYWO Chamber Music Course is right for you.
The NYWO Chamber Music Course – which run alongside the main orchestra courses – are held under the auspices of NYWO and have been enormously successful in introducing young woodwind and brass players to the pleasures and techniques of wind ensemble playing.
Those who attend the NYWO Chamber Music Course will engage in sessions designed to help improve ensemble, technique and musicianship with special emphasis being placed upon presentation skills and good performance practice.
Through exploring chamber music in a variety of combinations such as quartets, quintets, and larger ensembles, players are afforded opportunities to play exquisite chamber works such as the Strauss Serenades, perform their own compositions, direct group rehearsals, learn the fundamental principles of conducting and develop the essential skills associated with playing without a conductor. We believe that inspiring a journey of musical discovery leads to a high quality of music-making, so if you believe this too, NYWO’s Chamber Music Course may be the perfect experience for you.
Many NYWO Chamber Music Course members go on to join the main orchestra of NYWO, but over and above all, this course is about having fun making music with like-minded people and having a great time working and playing together.

NYWO Chamber Music Course Testimonials
“The NYWO Chamber Music Course was a fantastic opportunity for me to meet and enjoy playing with like minded musicians from an early age. This was all under the wonderful guidance of Simon de Souza and Pete ‘Bruce’ Harrison, who are both inspirational teachers, but just as importantly, great fun!!”
“I loved the NYWO Focus Course. It was a fantastic introduction to the world of chamber music, and I really enjoyed meeting and playing with other young musicians of a similar standard. Pete and Simon made the course great fun and I learned a lot about stage presentation as well as developing chamber music skills. I still think ‘down 2 3 up 2 3 smile’ when I bow at the end of a performance! The course really helped to encourage my love of music and I can’t recommend it highly enough.”
“….. the NYWO Focus Course was the highlight of my teenage music making years….”
“The course was a great opportunity to meet like minded people who were as enthusiastic about music as I, and the tutors were excellent at making every day enjoyable and engaging. Several years later I’m still using all the golden nuggets of information I learnt on the course.”
“My regular attendance, combined with a really friendly atmosphere and fantastic coaches, has taught me all I know about the enjoyable and rewarding world of chamber music”
